Some cancers under-represented in survivorship research, study finds
A recent study from the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center found that certain cancer types are disproportionately under-represented when researching survivorship.
The study revealed that 40 percent of current research focuses on breast cancer survivors, with breast cancer survivors accounting for 22 percent of the entire survivor population. In contrast, prostate cancer survivors make up 20 percent of the total survivorship population, but only 5 percent of the current research projects specifically target this cancer group.
Other cancers under-represented in survivorship studies include colorectal, gynecologic and hematological, according to researchers.
