“The defeat of the so-called Health Care Freedom Act is a long-awaited victory for millions of cancer patients, survivors, their families. It is unconscionable that legislation, which would have caused 16 million more uninsured, increased premiums by 20 percent, and destabilized insurance markets across the country, was only one vote away from passing. We thank Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for standing up to the political pressure and rejecting this disastrous bill. We also thank the survivors, caregivers, providers, and all those who spoke out in opposition for their hard work and dedication. It is time to close this chapter of partisanship and destructive public policy, and move forward to a bipartisan and transparent effort that actually improves our nation’s health care system.”
