JAMA Article: Incorporating Patient Preferences in Practice Guidelines
An article published in the current issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) cites several challenges to the incorporation of patient preferences in decision-making and guideline-directed care. In The Optimal Practice of Evidence-Based Medicine: Incorporating Patient Preferences in Practice Guidelines, the Mayo Clinic-affiliated authors also discuss the complexity of patient preferences, and offer suggestions for future actions to be taken to incorporate patient preferences into guideline panels.
Patient-centered care, and the inclusion of patient preferences in cancer care planning and coordination, are advocacy priorities for the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.
