Cancer survivor says her life changed completely with the Affordable Care Act
Gail O’Brien, a cancer patient who had been denied health insurance coverage due to her preexisting health condition, is just one of many cancer survivors that have benefited from the changes in health care coverage through the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), introduced two years ago, today.
Gail’s story is like so many others: a cancer patient who had been denied health insurance coverage and told that in order to continue treating her disease, she would have to finance her own care using her remaining retirement savings. Her family had already been forced to pay for many tests on an out-of-pocket basis.
However, she was able to get health insurance coverage through one of the Preexisting Condition Insurance Plans (PCIPs) set up by the legislation and receive coverage for her treatments-saving her life.
Gail’s story is part of a recent video released by the White House showing real life stories of people who have benefited from health care reform.
