Department of Health and Human Services Releases Proposed Rules for Affordable Care Act, NCCS to Analyze
On Tuesday, November 20, 2012, the Department of Health and Human Services released proposed rules on several key elements of the Affordable Care Act. The proposed rules address: 1) the operation of the health insurance exchanges and the definition of essential health benefits to be included in plans offered through the exchanges, 2) the implementation of the law’s health insurance reforms, and 3) the operation of workplace wellness programs.
Although the proposals were released on November 20, they will not be published in the Federal Register until Monday, November 26. Public comments on the proposed rules may be submitted for 30 days following the November 26 publication date.
The Department of Health and Human Services press release announcing the proposed rules includes links to fact sheets describing each.
NCCS will analyze the proposed rules, paying special attention to how they affect cancer survivors and their access to quality health care.
