NCCS Comments on Quality Measures for PPS-Exempt Cancer Hospitals
NCCS filed comments in support of proposed cancer care quality measures that will be utilized to assess the cancer care provided by the prospective payment system (PPS)-exempt cancer hospitals. In its comments, NCCS focused on the outcome measure that will assess the performance of PPS-exempt institutions in preventing inpatient admission or emergency department care for cancer patients who receive outpatient chemotherapy. NCCS applauded the development of this measure, which will encourage adherence to chemotherapy and supportive care guidelines developed by the American Society of Clinical Oncology, National Comprehensive Cancer Network, and other entities.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) mandated the development of quality measures for assessment of the PPS-exempt cancer hospitals, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has published measures for public comment.
