NCCS Urges Support for CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health
The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS), alongside numerous national health organizations, has signed a statement urging Congress to reject the proposed elimination of the CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health (OSH). Tobacco use remains a leading preventable cause of cancer and other chronic diseases, disproportionately impacting underserved communities. Eliminating OSH would dismantle critical programs such as the “Tips from Former Smokers” campaign, state tobacco control grants, and funding for counseling services—efforts that have saved lives and reduced healthcare costs. NCCS calls for robust funding to continue combating tobacco use and protecting the health of at-risk populations.
